Our Staff

We will also implement Critical Incident Services, a program designed to support and assist campus leaders in developing and implementing a plan to respond to a range of campus threats. Throughout our service to you, we will help your school alleviate the risk of students with serious emotional problems and other life obstacles by providing unlimited access to professional counselors, safeguarding confidentiality and ensuring compliance with current healthcare and patients’ rights legislation.

EMERGENCY PROBLEM:

In the wake of the violence of April 16, 2007 at Virginia Tech, Student Resource Services mobilized our entire team of professionals to offer support to our customer campuses and their students. The most critical concern we heard from campus leaders was: “ How can we prevent a crisis at our campus?”

Such as:

Domestic violence and other physical threats
Terrorist threats from inside or outside the campus community
Traumatic natural disasters and other threats, such as Avian flu or meningitis

SOLUTION:

Critical Incident Services provides:

	Campus Plan for potentially violent situations and traumatic threats

	Student orientation programs

	Consultation from an organizational development expert on creating tailored, multi-departmental emergency plans

	On-site, critical incident counselor response to support students and staff when an incident occurred

	Assistance in arranging a forensic evaluation of a potentially violent student

	Training for faculty and staff on the plan and their roles

	Training for faculty and staff on dealing with risky student issues

	Newsletter to keep administrators and staff abreast of developments and strategies for handling events and threats on campus
